This weekend I had to make a quick trip to Walmart for some ingredients I needed to make dinner for my family, and on my way to the groceries I noticed they had my favorite brand of toilet paper in stock after being sold out for over a month, naturally I stop and grab two packages of it because I NEVER want to run out again. So I can see how a Karen might mistake someone for a Walmart worker when they are carrying two packages of toilet paper with some groceries stacked on top, not pushing a cart. In my defense I was wearing a plain heather gray v-neck, ripped jeans, and sneakers. Everyone who works for the Walmart near me wears either a dark blue or a bright yellow vest with the logo on it and a name tag, and maybe they do wear jeans but I’m sure they don’t wear jeans with holes in them.
So I’m shopping, stacking my groceries on top of my toilet paper (because “I don’t *need* a cart this time”), and this Maskless Karen^TM approaches me. I immediately start backing away because my wife is immunocompromised, which of course angers her.
K- “Get back here, I’m trying to talk to you!”
Me- “You need to give me six feet of space!”
Cue massive eye roll.
K- “That was rude. Where can I find bright orange bandanas?”
Me- “I don’t know.”
K- “You ‘*don’t know*’?”
Me- “Yes I don’t know, I don’t work here.”
K- “Oh, so you ‘*don’t work here*’?”
Me- “Yes, I don’t work here.”
K-“Then why are you wearing that?”
Me- “These are my clothes?!”
K- “Why are you wearing that lanyard?”
Me- “This Pokémon lanyard? With my keys on it? So I don’t lose my fucking keys!”
K- “Well (huff)…you shouldn’t wear a Walmart costume if you don’t work here!”
She then stomped off, presumably to find the manager. Apparently I’m lucky I didn’t get assaulted like most people on this sub, but then again antimaskers pose their own threats. I was just flabbergasted I had to defend my clothing to a random woman and prove to her I wasn’t a Walmart employee.
