I was having a relaxed day of driving around and running errands and listening to my favorite youtuber, RSlash, when I stopped by a very nice Grocery Store with a blue and yellow logo for some items. I needed to get eggs and oatmeal so it should’ve been a quick run.
I was having a great day and all smiles and wasn’t worried about speed or efficiency. I pass the dairy section and take a bit to grab the eggs and find a package that isn’t damaged and get on my way. As I go through the aisles I am having trouble locating oatmeal, so I find an employee to help me.
Now this employee was Hispanic, this is important because he was having trouble understanding what I was needing and took me to see another employee. At this point I am excited to get my oatmeal and am about to be sent to the aisle it is located on.
As we get to this employee she is also Hispanic and they start talking and she asks what I am needing help with. I tell her that I am needing oatmeal and she then shrugs, says I don’t know and says to follow her. At this point I am mildly confused but still in a cheery state and thinking oatmeal must be in a difficult spot if so many people do not know where it is.
The 2nd employee takes me to another employee (It should be noted now that this is one of the stores Neighborhood Markets, and not a Superstore, so it is relatively tiny in comparison), This employee says something like “Oh, oatmeal is on aisles 15&16” I tell her thank you and mosey my way over to those aisles, eggs in hand, thinking how interesting that was. I make my way into the aisle and it says “Flour” and other similar things. I think to myself, huh, makes sense, I should’ve gone here in the beginning.
As I make my way through the aisle me and this early 20s female is there and we are walking near each other looking for our items. As i get to the other side I walk around an employee and am trying to find my hard-sough-for oatmeal.
During this whole trip I was wearing a Staff shirt for my place of employment, not realizing it was on and has STAFF in giant letters on the back. The woman then goes “Hey can you.. oh you don’t work here.” I chuckle a bit and say “No, I’m just trying to find oatmeal.” In a tone of an older woman yelling sweetie let me tell you something she laughs and says “Oatmeal, in the flour aisle, that’s going to be in the cereal aisle.”
I immediately do a mental facepalm, walk from aisles 15&16 into aisles 17&18 and see that wonderful box of oatmeal on the shelf and walk away, happy to now have my 2 items and getting to go home. Fun times.
