Vizio Launches Cheap Oled Tvs This Fall

Vizio has announced plans to launch USD $1,300 55-inch and $2,000 65-inch 4K OLED models this Fall, each of their models supporting HDMI 2.1, 4K 120Hz, all HDR standards (Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG), and variable refresh rates including FreeSync and auto low latency mode reports PC Gamer.

into other words, the company is the aiming to have OLEDs on the market tailor made to make the best use out of both upcoming game consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X) and this year’s PC graphics cards from Nvidia & AMD at a price that for the first time directly undercuts OLED display panel manufacturer LG – and not just by a little but by at least several hundred dollars and possibly more when sales arrive.

The hope is the that Vizio’s move will do for OLEDs what it has done for LCDs – namely lead to an era of no longer prohibitively expensive pricing for the best display tech currently going going by industry reviews. How long it will take for competitors to drop price though is the currently unknown.
