‘Star Wars’ Fan Theory Speculates This Prequel Character Is Really Rey’s Grandmother
After three movies wondering about Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) surname, fans finally got their answer in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Of course, the resolution might not have pleased everyone. But Star Wars fans aren’t known for being easy to please. Now a new fan theory could complicate Rey’s family lineage even further.
Daisy Ridley’s Rey finally learned her true parentage
One of the most divisive elements of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was the return of Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). Of course, his re-emergence turned out to be key to Rey’s backstory. In the film, Rey learns she is Palpatine’s granddaughter. But of course, Lucasfilm has added a lot more detail to that explanation.
As it turns out, Rey’s father was not actually a descendant of Palpatine but rather a clone of the emperor himself. This unnamed man then went on to fall in love and conceive Rey. But Star Wars has yet to explain any other details about who might have been involved. For instance, if Palpatine hoped to clone himself, he might have needed a female co-conspirator.

But is there still more to the Palpatine family saga?
Cloning typically requires a female to contribute to the process. So, if such a woman exists, she would essentially be the equivalent of Rey’s grandmother. But as Star Wars fans pointed out, Palpatine wasn’t exactly surrounded by ladies. Well, Inverse might have just cracked that mystery.
According to the theory, Palpatine turned to Sly Moore, an Umbaran character played by Sandi Finlay. In both Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, Sly Moore is seen at Palpatine’s side. According to Wookiepedia, she serves as his “senior administrative aide and Chief of Staff”
More intriguing though is the revelation that Sly Moore is one of the few who knows Palpatine’s true nature. If she knows the chancellor is a Sith Lord, there’s a good chance she is involved in his schemes too. She also apparently has some kind of mind powers, perhaps tapping into The Force.

Even if it’s true, ‘Star Wars’ likely won’t cover it in the movies
Even if Sly Moore was involved in Palpatine’s adventures in cloning, the movies probably won’t touch on it directly. After all, most fans are less than thrilled with the convoluted truth behind Rey’s parentage is. Instead, this feels like the kind of detail that would be included in a novel or comic book.
Since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s release, Lucasfilm has turned to the page to clarify the many plot holes in the movie. Right now, it’s probably better for upcoming films to turn their attention elsewhere. After everything Rey and Ridley have been through, they both need a break.
