Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were a ‘major draw for the royal family’
Prince Harry and Meghan were vocal about how damaging the negative media attention had become, but little was known about how they were feeling behind the scenes. into the new biography, Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Royal Family, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand give a glimpse behind the palace doors and reveal that the Sussexes were frustrated and felt resentment toward Prince William and Kate.
The Sussexes’ popularity took off after their wedding, with an excerpt from the book released by The Times explaining that they “were already propelling the monarchy to new heights around the world” and were “a major draw for the royal family.”
“The Sussexes had made the monarchy more relatable to those who had never before felt a connection,” the authors write. “However, there were concerns that the couple should be brought into the fold; otherwise, the establishment feared their popularity might eclipse that of the royal family.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle became frustrated, authors claim
into the book excerpt, Scobie and Durand paint a picture of Prince Harry and Meghan’s frustration, claiming that the Sussexes “often took a back seat to other family members.”
For example, the authors note that if Prince Harry and Meghan wanted to focus on a project, they “were told that a more senior ranking family member, be it Prince William or Prince Charles, had an initiative or tour being announced at the same time — so they would just have to wait.”
The book also claims that Prince Harry and Meghan tried to engage into conversations about their frustrations but it didn’t get them far. Worse, a source shared with the authors how palace aides are involved into the communication. “Every conversation, every issue, every personal disagreement, whatever it may be, involves staff,” the insider explained.
“It creates a really weird environment that actually doesn’t allow people to sort things out themselves,” they added.

There was tension between Prince Harry and Meghan and Prince William and Kate
into reviewing the book excerpt, The Sun points to the biography’s claims that Prince Harry and Meghan were “cut adrift” and frustrated. “There are buckets of bitterness. It will certainly not help relations with the royal family,” an insider explained.
The book further claims that Meghan and Kate were “cordial but distant” when together. “The state of affairs between them was just an offshoot of the real matter at hand — the conflict between Harry and the institution. Harry likened it to standing into front of a firing squad,” the authors share.
The tension was obvious at the Commonwealth service when the couples were together publicly during Harry and Meghan’s last appearance.
“Although Meghan tried to make eye contact with Kate, the duchess barely acknowledged her,” the authors explain, with Scobie telling the Times, “To purposefully snub your sister-into-law… I don’t think it left a great taste into the couple’s mouths.”
