AJ Pritchard has responded to rumours he’s tipped to star in the upcoming series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!.
The 25-year-old announced confirmed on Friday he wouldn’t be returning to the BBC One show as a professional.
Rumours have been flying after the star said he would be stepping away from Strictly Come Dancing after four years earlier this year.
But with all that newly found spare time on his hands, the star has been hotly tipped for a spot on the ITV show as it films in the UK for the first time ever.
This year, hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly will be putting celebs through their paces at Gwrych Castle in Wales rather than the Australian jungle.
During an exclusive chat with the Mirror’s Jess Boulton live on Facebook, AJ was asked if he’s got any plans to visit Wales any time soon.
“We would love to do I’m A Celebrity together,” AJ said. He was interviewed alongside his brother Curtis.
Before the dancer could get another word in, Love Island star Curtis jumped in. He said: “I feel so sorry for anyone because when you’re in Australia and obviously everyone’s starving aren’t they because they do the challenges for food, when you’re in the warmth and you’re hungry, you can get away with it.
“But in Wales, in the peeing down rain, cold, winds, horribleness, and you’re starving as well, I feel so sorry for them.
“It doesn’t rain in Wales does it?” AJ asked.
“It’s down for snow at one point, supposedly,” Curtis smirked as he told his brother.
Jess informed the siblings there’s hail storms predicted for North Wales in November too. She added: “I wouldn’t want to be there then,” to which AJ responded: “Thankfully we’ll be in London in our bubble!”
The pair then went on to explain how much they love being outside, perhaps hinting at their suitability for the line-up.
“We love the outdoors though, since we were little kids we’ve done extreme sports from mountain boarding to snowboarding, all of these things outdoors,” Curtis explained.
“We’d always be building dens in the garden.”
AJ added: “We live outdoors. We like to get muddy and wet. In lockdown we did mountain biking every single day and pretty much killed ourselves, but we’re fine now.
“Yeah, outdoors is definitely a tick, I love the outdoors.”
The news comes after television bosses confirmed that the hit series would make a triumphant return later this year, with producers “moving heaven and Earth” to make it happen.
Although there has been no official confirmation about who is heading to the jungle, insiders told The Sun AJ’s appearance would mark a huge blow for the BBC.
After all, he only announced his departure from the Strictly Come Dancing team earlier this year.
“Strictly would like to think that no one leaves the show and goes on to bigger things, but AJ will be very popular in the jungle and it’ll be a good platform for him,” a source told the publication.
“His deal is all but done and ITV are delighted they’ve been able to prise him away from their rivals.”
AJ joins a long list of celebrities rumoured to appear on the hit ITV show.
Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd and Michelle Visage are among the famous faces that could be heading for the bush tucker trials later this year.
As the entertainment world reels from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, I’m A Celeb bosses are working relentlessly to ensure the show still goes ahead.
It is still not clear whether the stars will head to the Australian jungle as in previous years, or whether an alternative location will be used for the reality show.
